TESOL 18 – Day One…

Ah, the conference is here…the flight from Columbus to Chicago yesterday was a little bumpy but nothing too bad. My twin sister only grabbed my hand once in fear…pretty good. I listened to the Greatest Showman soundtrack the whole time. Made the 53-minute flight fly by…no pun intended. I left the hotel this morning around 8:30 am after not wanting to get up; which is not really unusual, stopped at the Corner Bakery to grab a little breakfast before the very jerky shuttle ride to the convention center. My first stop was the Expo Hall…I have to admit, I was a little underwhelmed. When I think of expo halls, I compare it to ISTE and honestly, nothing compares to the expo hall at ISTE! There were very few exhibitors compared to ISTE. This makes me wonder…why? I’m still pondering this so I’ll hopefully get back to this. I attended a wonderful session presented by Maria Dove and Andrea Honigsfeld called Collaboration: Students, Curriculum, and Instruction. It was wonderful and am excited to get their new book, called Co-Teaching for English Learners, in the mail when I return to Ohio. You can also check out the notes I took about the session by clicking on my link here.  I presented today at 1:00 pm so I wore the only dress I packed. I was excited to share Twitter with lots of people here at the conference. I had great attendance at my session and was a bit nervous even though I said I wasn’t. When you enter the room and there are already people there waiting for you, you get a little nervous. Many of the attendees had questions and we had some good dialogue. I hope they fill out the session evaluation so I can get some feedback. It is now 3:00 pm and I haven’t eaten lunch…contemplating on grabbing a piece of pizza from the expo hall. I am sitting in a chair out in the common space of the conference and doing some people watching and Twizzler eating. I bring Twizzlers with me everywhere…never know when you need a little sugary snack.
