WV TESOL Conference…

Yesterday I had the privilege of presenting at the West Virginia Teacher English to Speakers of Other Languages (WV TESOL) Conference. I have never attended the conference before but thought I’d branch out and take a trip to Huntington, WV…It was the first time I had visited Marshall University. My sister was kind enough to make the trip with me so I wouldn’t fall asleep. Mission accomplished!

I attended three great sessions and try to take notes so I could share them you. The first session I attended was the Plenary Speaker, Dr. Christel Broady, who unfortunately didn’t have her entire time to speak. She is the “professor and Director of ESL Programs at Georgetown College, is a leader at TESOL International and KYTESOL, as well as the Owner of an English Learning and Technology Community of Practice.”

The second session I attended was titled, “On the Road Again.” It was led by three ELL teachers from Hamilton County, WV. They talked about different tools they use to stay organized due to being a traveling teacher. They had great suggestions and can’t wait to begin using some of their tools. They are also presenting the same presentation at International TESOL in Baltimore, MD later in April.

The last session I attended was a discussing an intensive English program at West Virginia State University and how they incorporate Portfolios. The provided us with examples so we could look through them and their thoughts about reliability, validity and their rubric thinking. I would be interested to see how their program continues to progress as they reflect and learn.

My presentation was titled, “Inside the World of Twitter“. I have begun to use Papermine for my presentations which is an online presentation tool. I tried to show the attendees that using Twitter can be great for collaboration, communication with families and school community and so much more. My presentation went well and my hope is to see them on Twitter soon.

If you were at my presentation, I do ask that you complete an evaluation for me…here is the link. Thank you!
