So I have determined that I don’t get winter seasonal depression, I get testing season depression. I define it as this: depression and/or the blues from continually having to give state tests to students over a two week period. The only medication I have found to work is ICE CREAM! That’s right, two bowls with dinner then a scooter crunch for lunch. We have too much testing in our schools today. We have MAP, MAC II and OELPA (for my ELL students) DRA, DSI, Letter ID, CAP classroom tests, Ohio State Tests and more! Students these days are bombarded with tests all that time. A friend told me that she dies a little every time she has to give a state test…I can relate. I was sequestered in a room with glass block windows, 30 desktop computers, random numbers of middle school students, sometimes a bilingual aide and chrome books. Oh I’m sorry, I forgot to mention the word-to word dictionary. A little of me has died these last two weeks as I’ve tested my students. Until next year…
